I can remember when i started my apprenticeship as a plumber every toilet pan was secured to the floor with a sand and cement mix mortar.
How to fix a toilet to concrete floor.
The first thing that needs to be done when installing a toilet on concrete is to make sure that the place you intend to install the toilet has the necessary pipes.
I m fitting a toilet pan onto a ceramic tiled bathroom floor.
The pan wobbles a bit when it is sitting on this floor where it is to be fitted.
Then make an outline of the toilet on the floor with masking tape.
Anyways finally got round to having a go at the toilet today.
I was expecting this to be straightforwards but when i came to attempt it i noticed the toilet has only 2 holes that look like they are for screws into the floor.
With the toilet flange in place you are ready to install the toilet with a new wax ring.
Slip your repair flange spanner under the toilet flange but replace a toilet bolt in the concrete floor through the hole in your spanner for easy toilet reinstallation.
Use tapcon anchors or a similar type of masonry concrete screws to fasten the toilet flange to the concrete slab.
The cistern and the internal parts were all inplace when delivered and fixing it to the pan was a straightforward job.
And before anybody shoots me down for not fixing pans to concrete floors i have had more problems with our plumbers trying to fix them down by either cracking them braking them or slipping with drills and scratching them so we now silicone them to floor which when the silicone has gone off and the cistern is fixed back to the wall makes the toilet just as solid as if it was screwed down.
We would place the toilet pan on the floor and mark out the foot print with a pencil and the remove it again the next step would be to cut a hole in the floor under the pan for a key this would create a lock between the pan and the floor.
There must be a 3 inch diameter drainage pipe rising up from the concrete as well as a water supply pipe coming from an adjacent wall.
Measure the depth and width of the gluing edge of the bowl.
If using a plastic flange ring be careful not to crack the ring by screwing the anchors in too far.
First set the toilet in place without the wax ring and square it up to the wall.
My question is do i have to screw the pan down to the floor or can i just stick it down with silicone sealant.
Not only will you save money but also you ll have the satisfaction of knowing that you repaired your toilet all by yourself.
Don t pay expensive plumbers and home repair service fees when you can do it yourself.
Screw the toilet flange onto the concrete.
Whilst that in itself isn t a problem the fact that they are on a almost vertical part of the toilet is as it appears there isn t an obvious route to the floor through these holes.
Remove the toilet and turn it on its side.
